Canadian Payroll

Canadian Payroll Consulting A Canadian Payroll Consulting firm can provide a wide range of services including payroll setup, payroll processing, payroll systems implementation, payroll data analysis, compliance audits and reviews, reporting and consulting on best practices and strategies for payroll management.

In Canada, payroll areas are usually determined by the employer’s province or territory of residence. The specific codes used to identify and track an employer’s payroll area are determined by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Each area has its own unique two- or threeletter code, which is used for reporting purposes. For example, BC (British Columbia) is represented by BC, SK (Saskatchewan) is represented by SK, and QC (Quebec) is represented by QC. The codes are often used when filing payroll taxes, registering for services with the CRA, and submitting payroll records for analysis and review.

Canadian Payroll taxes are required to be paid by employers throughout each province. They are calculated based on a number of criteria, including taxable earnings, research and development tax credits, pension plans, and other monetary benefits. Generally, these taxes are remitted to the Canada Revenue Agency, the province/territory, or the respective municipality. There are several categories of payroll taxes, including Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contributions, Employment Insurance (EI) premiums, and provincial/territorial taxes. Depending on the province, any of these taxes may be split into employer and employee portions.

Employers are responsible for ensuring both the employer and employee portions are paid. In addition, employers must also comply with other provincial or territorial payroll requirements, including vacation pay and statutory holiday pay.
